There are a lot of videos out there both climber made and commercial of Everest, Everest Base Camp, and the entire Himalaya Region. I spent a lot of time searching online and these were the highlights I came up with. Sadly there has been a lot of tragedy on the mountain over the years, so some of the videos are quite sad, but there is also some amazing scenery, interesting facts, and heart warming stories portrayed in these videos. If you know of other good Everest videos please post links in the comments and I’ll add them to the collection.
Tim Mosedale, the 10th British climber to summit Everest from both sides of the mountain films and narrates a panoramic view of the Himalayas from the peak of Mt. Everest.
This is an amazing and intense video from the perspective of the climber (filmed by his helmet cam), working his way through the giant Khumbu ice waterfall at the base of Everest. You see him crossing crevasses over ladders, climbing up and down cliffs, and stepping over gaps that drop hundreds of feet, all from his perspective.
This is a NASA video taken from space of the Everest Region and Indian Subcontinent
This video shows the climbers heading from the South Summit up Hilary’s Step to the real summit. Some good narration about what’s required and what it’s like on this last stretch to the top of the world.
A terrible video of a plane crashing into the cliff in front of the Tenzing-Hillary airport. There is a reason why this is the most dangerous airport in the world, the clouds/fog come rolling in very quickly causing very poor visibility.
Ken Kamler was the only doctor on the mountain in the 1996 Everest disaster. In this video he accounts his experience helping the survivors coming down the mountain along with a slideshow. Kind of long, but fascinating.
Nobody died or was seriously injured, but this is a crazy video of a helicopter crashing at Everest Base Camp while trying to land and pick up a team of climbers.
A clip of a man skiing down 6000+ feet of Everest in less than 3 minutes. From the Academy Award winning documentary, “The Man Who Skied Down Everest”.
From May 2009, a climber films a massive avalanche coming down the Kumbu Icefall from Everest Base Camp. They didn’t know at the time, but sadly 1 climber was killed, and 6 injured in this.
Not the best video, but pretty cool that someone was able to take a helicopter that high. Shows hope that maybe one day a helicopter rescue will be possible for troubled Everest climbers.
***GRAPHIC – This is a short video of a corpse of a dead climber turned to leather in the harsh conditions of Everest.
***GRAPHIC – This video shows more victims of Mt. Everest, so sad. Because of the extreme conditions, climbers who perish are generally left on the mountain and given a “Glacial Burial”. It’s too dangerous and difficult to take the bodies down, not worth risking further life for it. Extremely sad though.
The Khumbu Ice Falls are one of the most dangerous areas of the Everest Climb. Here a climber crosses a wide crevasse over some aluminum ladders tied together.
Here a climber films part of his descent down the icefall as he returns to base camp. Frequently they’ll climb over the ice falls at night to reduce risk of collapse from melting snow, but it looks like an amazing day in this video.
This video shows an expedition climbing the ice falls with a slide show and some sped up video. Some nice shots.
There’s no audio, but this video does a good job of showing what it’s like up near the top of Everest on a crowded day
A travelers solo Journey to the Mt Everest Base Camp, featuring the many issues Nepal faces with poverty, environmental and political. Shot over a period of 2 months in Nepal.
