The best way to see the Pyramids of Giza in detail is by horse. On foot it takes forever to get around the massive area, plus it’s extremely hot. Camels are probably the most uncomfortable animal in the world to ride, I don’t know how people cross the desert on them. So we’re left with dirt bikes, or horses… good luck renting a dirt bike in Giza.
I don’t have much to say about the pyramids, because they aren’t exactly off the beaten path, so there are a million other websites you can get your details from. One thing though… most photos don’t show it, but the pyramids are only 15 miles away from the Cairo city center, and on the edge of the city of Giza, which is the third largest city in Egypt. They’re not exactly in the middle of the desert as most people visualize. I found it strange when I could see the pyramids from the highway.
Be sure to check out the Egyptian Museum in Cairo also, it’s maybe my favorite museum in the world. It’s not cheap, but I found it well worth it to pay to see the mummy exhibit, it’s crazy to think how you’re standing above the actual people you read about in history books growing up.
