Found this cool timelapse video on Vimeo the other day. I had never heard of El Teide, but apparently its the tallest mountain in Spain, located on the largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife. The video is mostly of the sky but also has some nature shots and is worth watching. This is not the Spain you're used to seeing.
The New7Wonders Foundation has recently provisionally nominated the New 7 Wonders of Nature from Zurich, Switzerland. The list was selected by a combination of votes and "expert judging" from a group of 28 finalists. There are some big ones missing like the Grand Canyon and Great Barrier Reef. I'm not sure I like this list very much, but I thought it was worth posting.
The best way to see the Pyramids of Giza in detail is by horse. On foot it takes forever to get around the massive area, plus it's extremely hot. Camels are probably the most uncomfortable animal in the world to ride, I don't know how people cross the desert on them. So we're left with dirt bikes, or horses... good luck renting a dirt bike in Giza.

There's something strangely familiar about the monkey, but still so animalistic. A time lapse video taken by Expedition 28 & 29 from the International Space Station during the months of August to October, 2011. You can clearly see the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) as the station crosses over the top of the Earth. Because of the Earths constant rotation things look a bit different than we're used to on the map, it's tough to make out what countries you're looking at (when the clouds aren't hiding the ground), but I was able to identify a few regions. The person who posted this video claims they didn't do anything to edit colors or anything similar, it's strange to see the atmosphere so clearly visible, very cool.
By now the secret is out. The evolution of budget travel has gone from $5 for a crappy dorm bed to a free private room. With the explosion of sites like CouchSurfing.org a new generation of penny pinching backpackers are able to travel further for cheaper. As a CS Ambassador, i'm always finding myself caught up in the philosophical (and moral) discussion of CouchSurfing being more than merely a free place to stay. It is instead an opportunity to share cultural experiences with locals (or quite often ex-pats) giving you an inside scoop. Gibraltar is a unique place, whether you go to get your passport stamped or just to say you have been there, you have to get to the top of the giant rock and hang out with the Barbary Macaque Monkeys. It's a great opportunity to take an up-close picture of a semi-wild monkey, and it could be the closest you are ever able to get to a monkey and still be pretty assured you won't walk away with a disease or two; these monkeys are tested.

Morocco is not known for their beaches, however they do have beaches which will exceed your expectations. The beach in Tangier, although located near a port, was actually better than expected. Not world class, but better than you'd expect, and better than people may tell you. Head further south to Agadir and you'll find a beach which is quite nice, and has waves you can surf. If you're coming from Spain, don't expect the same type of beach culture you've grown accustomed to. You won't find any scantily clad sunbathers, or vendors walking the beach selling "La cerveza, la fanta, y el agua"; Morocco is a Muslim country with Muslim beaches. What you will find is sun, sand, and warm waters.
