A Story For Tomorrow Lake
A lake in Patagonia as seen in the video

My friend Travelstache just posted this video on facebook. He posts a lot of cool stuff, but I really liked this one. It's called "A Story For Tomorrow", and it's a video that a couple made about their 5 week trip to Patagonia and Chile.

Tsunami Wave
The tsunami wave about to crash into the shore on Boxing Day 2004 in Phuket, Thailand

I just came across what I thought was a 10 minute compilation video of the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004. I clicked on it, got hooked, then found out it was only part 1 of 7. By that time I couldn't put it down, and ended up spending the next hour plus watching a handful of people's first hand Tsunami stories.

Fishing In Colombia
My friends and I fishing in Tayrona National Park

While in Colombia I made friends with a guy from Buenos Aires. He ended up traveling with us for 9 or 10 days so we visited a lot of the same places. He carried one of the little Go Pro cameras with him and made this video when he got home. The video is pretty cool, and I really like the song he chose, "Good As Gold" by Tiga. Camping At Tayrona National Park
One of the restaurants and camp sites at Tayrona National Park

It's 10pm on a Monday night, my friends just left and I'm now sitting here alone at the Cranky Croc hostel in Bogotá, Colombia, reflecting on my last 2 weeks here in Colombia. The trip was great, it was full of adventure, close calls, beaches, and beer. Colombia is a beautiful country I'll surely visit again, and could have easily spent 1 to 2 months in. This post is going to be a quick recap of what we did, enjoyed, wish we could have done, and didn't really care for.

The Buildings Along The Beach in Nice, France
The buildings and road along the beach in Nice

Many associate Nice with all the glitz and glamour of the red carpet and the neighbouring Cannes Film Festival. But for the majority of us not on a celebrity budget, Nice will glimmer just as brightly for those looking to book a low-cost holiday.

Salty Meets Fresh: Playa Langosta and Estuary, Tamarindo, Costa Rica

Soccer on the Beach
A family plays soccer on Playa Langosta

Playa Langosta is a strip of beaches and rocky coast just south of the resort town of Tamarindo in Costa Rica. The shore is lined with resorts and bed and breakfasts, but most are removed enough from the beach, behind dense foliage, that the beach retains an unmolested feel. Playa Langosta can get pretty crowded during the peak season, so arriving just before that, early December, will give you perfect weather and a little less crowded experience.

My 5 Best Travel Experiences Of 2011

Lechon With Friends In Siargao, Philippines
Eating Lechon (roasted suckling pig) and sushi on a private beach with friends

As 2011 comes to an end, I thought it would be cool to talk about my top 5 travel experiences of the year. My year was split roughly 6 months in Australia, 3 months in Southern Asia, and 3 in the US. It's hard to pick just 5, but here are my favorite travel memories from 2011, in no particular order.

Travel Colombo: What To Do And See

Mt. Lavinia Beach. Colombo
Mt. Lavinia, the best beach in Colombo

Although Sri Lanka is an amazing country to visit, their capital city of Colombo is not one of the highlights. Don't plan to travel Colombo, but since you'll probably be entering and exiting from the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport, you'll have to spend a little time in the city, so you should know what to do and see. I had 1 day in the city, and chose to have a wander around, find a haircut shop, then board the local train down to Mt. Lavinia, Colombo's best beach.

Q. Hey me and Chris are trying to plan our honeymoon. Have you ever been to Phuket or Thailand? Let me know, or if you have other recommendations?? Somewhere exotic and tropical, but things/excursions to do with good food and drinks!

7 Day Sri Lanka Itinerary – Colombo to Negombo

Monkey vs King Cobra
A monkey taunting a spitting king cobra on the beach of Mt. Lavinia

Late this summer I visited Sri Lanka on my way from Singapore to India.  I flew into Colombo and spent a couple days in the city and down on Mount Lavinia beach.  Then, since my time was limited and I was feeling lazy, I booked a tour through a company so I could see as much of the rest of the country as possible.  I had a basic idea of what I wanted to do and see, and worked with the agent to come up with this 7 day Sri Lanka itinerary. The itinerary is something she wrote, and I added a few of my comments to each location. A fair warning the article may be a bit choppy because of this.
