Body surfing in the wave pool
When choosing your hotel in Las Vegas during the summer months, the pool often times becomes an important factor. The Mandalay Bay Beach and pool is nice; it's well rounded, but not the best around. Depending on what type of pool scene you're looking for, the Mandalay Bay pool is hit or miss. It's got a lazy river, a wave pool, a sand beach, a couple bars, a casino overlooking the pool, a wading pool, and a couple other smaller pools around the outside. If you're looking for a party scene, the Mandalay Bay pool is not so crazy, but it is what you make of it, you can certainly get your drink on and have fun. Cabanas are available, but probably not worth it.

Our favorite pub of the pub crawl, The Park Inn
There's a small town called Mumbles on the coast of Wales, located near Swansea, the second largest city in the country. This stretch of coast has 1 main road running through it about a mile long; this road was once one of the most heavily concentrated pub areas in the world, home to well over 20, hence the name Mumbles Mile. For those of you who know of the show Three Sheets, I learned of this town and pub crawl from the Wales episode. For those of you who don’t, you're welcome; click the link and watch some of the episodes, its a great show about different cultures and their drinking customs.

The front of the Plough and Harrow pub
If you find yourself in Cardiff, and you have access to a car, take the ride about 20 miles west to the town of Monknash where you'll find a nice little pub with a cool history. Sample their fine Welsh ales and be sure to try their food. Read about their history from the menu and you’ll find the Plough and Hammer has been around for over 600 years, and has become home to a handful of ghosts over this time.

The Sun Pyramid in Teotihuacan, Mexico
If you visit Mexico City, do not skip out on the Teotihuacan Pyramids. Book a tour out of Mexico City, they'll arrange your transportation to the Pyramids, and bring you by other sites on the way. Your hotel or hostel should be able to book the tour for you. You'll likely get a chance to try different Agave based liquors, including Tequila and Mezcal and get a traditional Mexican meal. Walk from the Moon Pyramid down Avenue of the Dead towards the Sun Pyramid. Climb the Sun Pyramid, touch the Abalone, and climb down. If you arrive at peak hours plan to spend some time waiting in line to climb the Sun Pyramid as limited numbers of people are allowed up at any given time. The stairs are steep and narrow, and its a long ways up, but its worth the climb.

A short hike up the mountain to the Citadel in Olympos provides this view of the beach
Olympos, Turkey, just outside of Antalya, is the perfect place to visit for a backpacker. Stay in a tree house at Kadirs, meals are included in the cost of your stay. Relax at the beach, explore the ruins, hike, kayak, rock climb, go cliff jumping, scuba diving, go canyoning, see the Chimera Flame, mountain bike, go out on a boat, or play volleyball. Come home, take a nap, then head out to the Hangar Bar at Kadirs for some drinks. When the Hangar Bar closes around 11, the Bull Bar Opens. Go dance and mingle until late night. Olympos is a vacation spot, so everyone is social, it's easy to make new friends from Turkey or anywhere else in the world.

Your typical photo from a hot air balloon trip in Yangshuo, and how our ride started
Yangshuo is a small town along the Li River in the Guilin Area, Guangxi Province of China. The town is surrounded by hundreds of tall and narrow karst peaks. Its the perfect destination for a backpacker, lots of things to do. I recommend the Hot Air Balloon ride, however you may not want to go if rain is in the forecast (as it is frequently). Ride the boat down the Li River from Guilin, then stop off for 3-4 days in Yangshuo. Monkey Jane's hostel is a fun place to stay if you like to drink. Monkey Jane herself likes to hang out with her patrons and is a great host, shes got a bar on the roof where everyone hangs out at night.
