Best Way To Get Across Thailand

Koh Phi Phi Caves
A long boat going past a fishermans cave in Koh Phi Phi

Q. Couple questions... Right now we are just going to be on the west side of the islands in thailand. Do you recall it being easy to get to side to side? If so i really want to go to KohPhi Phi. We are going to get certified to dive in koh tao. Do you recommend that or should we do it in Koh Phi Phi?

Hyams Beach – Whitest Sand Beach In The World

Blue Water Lagoon on White Sands
Beautiful water and pure white sand at Hyams Beach, Australia

Officially the whitest sand in the world according to the Guiness Book of World Records, Hyams Beach at Jervis Bay is a great "off the beaten path" destination. A few hours south of Sydney, Jervis Bay is more of a local spot. Rent a car and drive yourself down; stay in a house on St Georges Basin Lake, or even on the beach, while only paying modest prices. You won't find crazy nightlife, or busy shops & restaurants, Jervis Bay is a place to get away from the masses of Bondi style beaches.

A Huge Snapper, Tamarindo
A huge snapper caught with the head of a skipjack tuna in Tamarindo, Costa Rica

Tamarindo, located in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica, along with being a great surf and resort spot, is a really fun place to fish. I was there in December, which is supposed to be a good time to catch marlin and sailfish although we didn’t, but I had just as much fun reeling in the hard fighting skipjack and yellowfin tunas that bit almost every time we threw out a line. We were even lucky enough to catch a snapper.

San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua

Beachfront Bars & Restaurants, San Juan Del Sur
Beachfront Bars and Restaurants on the bay in San Juan Del Sur

San Juan Del Sur is Nicaragua's Premier destination on the Pacific. The colorful buildings and gorgeous beaches make it an ideal stopover on your way through Nicaragua. Flying into Managua International Airport, take the local "chicken bus" to get to San Juan Del Sur. In Nicaragua they use re-painted old school buses for their public transport, you'll be amongst almost entirely locals, its cheaper and more fun.

Famous Tunnel Bridge Entrance to Prospect Park
One of the entrances to Prospect Park

One of New York's most iconic landmarks is Central Park, but what most visitors don't realize is that Central Park has slightly younger, slightly smaller, but equally as impressive brother in Brooklyn known as Prospect Park. Built in 1867, Prospect Park covers 585 acres of North Brooklyn. The highlights of Prospect Park include a 90 acre meadow, a 60 acre lake (the only lake in Brooklyn), a picnic house, a zoo, a cemetary, a concert venue, and plenty of athletic fields.

Gap In El Camino Del Rey
One of several missing sections on the aging El Caminito Del Rey Walkway

You may have read the article I published back in May about this El Camino Del Rey Hike. I just discovered that this hike is not going to be around much longer, at least not in its current "adventurous" state. If it sounds appealing, you better hurry up and get to Spain

Mana Island Guide – Fiji

White Sand and Clear Waters, Mana Island
White Sand, Clear Water, Palm Trees. Typical Mana Island

Mana island is one of 333 fijian islands, just a 4 hour boat ride from Nadi from about $50 return. Mana island is a lovely little island you can easily walk round in about 3 hours providing you're steady on your feet as you do have to clamber over rocks round some of the edges. The accommodation on Mana varies from budget to exclusive with the island having its own airstrip its a popular destination for families and honeymooners as well as backpackers. The island seems to be split in to 3 sections, the section where you arrive on the boat is where all the backpacker accommodation is, some more expensive than others. I stayed at 'Serenas' which was $35 a night with 3 meals included; the dorm rooms were basic as was the one cold tap used as a shower. Although the family that ran it were lovely and very helpful i wouldn't recommend it, the food was questionable, often cold, and I personally don't enjoy doughnuts for breakfast. The situation was similar next door at Mana Lagoon, although they have a small games room and the only shop on the island.

Velib Bikes Docked At Their Station, Paris
Bikes lined up at a Velib station in downtown Paris

You've probably seen it before, bicycles for rent from a machine, randomly setup around a city. It's not unique to Paris, but its a cheap, quick, and cool way to find your way around the city. You'll need to buy a ticket for the day for 1€, then trips less than 30 minutes are free, the next half hour is 1€, the following half hour is 2€, and from then on it costs 4€ per 30 minutes. You're then free to bike through Paris for as long as you like, and drop it off at any other station when you're done. Be warned that if your credit card doesn't use the chip and pin system, you won't be able to use it for Velib.

Surfers Paradise – Mix Cancun & Las Vegas With A Little Huntington Beach

Surfers Paradise Beach
The beach in Surfers Paradise

Surfers Paradise in the Gold Coast of Australia is a city for tourists. Comprised of mostly bars, clubs, restaurants, hotels, and apartments, the city caters to all types of travelers. If you plan on visiting around November / December, know that the city tends to be taken over by schoolies - students on break who party non stop. This may not be the best time to visit if thats not what you're looking for, however, for some of you maybe it is?

Paihia Islands, New Zealand
The islands of Paihia, New Zealand

Paihia is a quaint little seaside town in the bay of island, if your looking for a thrill seeking adventure this isn't the place but if your looking for a place to relax with a beach, nice bars and plenty to do then this is ideal. It is recongnised as 'the jewel of the bay of islands' and when you're wondering around the town and the white sandy beaches you'll see why. There are plenty of back packers to stay at here all of the very reasonably priced and if you don't go in high season in the height of summer the weather will still be good but you can get accommodation much cheaper. From all the hostels in Paihia its a short wall along the sea front to the town, you'll walk past many restaurants and bars all pretty reasonably priced. And once in the town theres a supermarket, shops and similar cafes, bars and restaurants.
