Theres a bit of confusion about Everest Base Camp amongst the average trekker trying to reach it. You hear about old base camp, new base camp, and advanced base camp, nobody seems to be certain which they're hiking to. I'm still not sure I've got this figured out, but I believe the order in distance is the following: old base camp is first, with the big rock marker, and is the most common end destination. Further across the glacier is new base camp, as pictured here. And past that is advanced base camp, which is only reached by those attempting to summit everest, this is the first camp after you start your summit attempt, and no base camp trekkers reach this camp.
