Abandoned Airport Runway, Namche Bazaar

Our guide told us about an abandoned airport / airstrip at the top of the of mountain at Namche Bazaar. On our day off we hiked the roughly 1000ft. up to check it out. The fog was really bad, we couldn't see much, but it was clear that planes do still use it sometimes, as there were fresh tracks. Apparently a plane or two a day do still land there, but it is not widely used. It makes sense to have an airport there, but the project was cancelled as it would kill all business for villages along the Everest Base Camp trail starting at Lukla and up to Namche Bazaar.
