Kuala Lumpur is one of the biggest airline hubs in SE Asia, so if you’re travelling through the area for any extended period of time, you’re likely to pass through it. KL is not the most exciting city in the world, but it’s worth checking out, and 2 of it’s most popular landmarks happen to be towers. The famous Petronas Towers (AKA Twin Towers) and the less fancy Kuala Lumpur Tower sit less than a mile apart in the center of the city.
The Petronas Twin Towers were once the World’s Tallest Buildings, until 2004 when the Taipei 101 passed them. Since then the Burj Khalifa in Dubai has passed both of them. Today the Petronas Towers are still the world’s largest twin towers, and probably my favorite of the massive buildings.

The Kuala Lumpur Tower, despite being located in the middle of Malaysia’s flagship city, is surrounded by a small forest. If you can, get there early and take a walk through it, it’s pretty nice, and there are wild animals living around the tower. We saw a group of monkeys jumping through the trees high above us, I think they were trying to drop stuff on us too. There was also a monkey sitting in the tree just off the bottom platform where the entrance and restaurants are.

Both towers are worth checking out, however the Petronas Towers can be difficult to go up due to crowds. If you’d like to visit the top you’ll need to arrive first thing in the morning; we missed it and therefore didn’t get the chance to go to the top. But… I’ve heard you’re better off going up the Kuala Lumpur Tower because then you get views of the more spectacular Petronas City Center complex. Instead we went to check out the Twin Towers at night, which was way better, I highly recommend seeing them at night because they light them up really cool.
