Walking to the tuk tuk line on our way to a club in Boracay, Philippines we saw a spa advertising those fish that eat the dead skin off your feet. The next day we headed back to try it out. I’ve seen it before in other Asian countries, but never actually tried it. It’s a strange concept, and I don’t know that I could tell the difference afterwards (and my feet were all messed up from climbing Mt. Whitney), but it was worth trying.
Boracay is not the only place to do it, but it was cheap and seemed pretty clean. They also offered back rubs while you sat there with your feet in the tank for 20 or 30 minutes. Personally I had a lot of trouble leaving my feet in the tank, it tickled too much, but my friends were able to settle in easier than I was. They loved one of my friends (Chiang!), and didn’t seem to like another much. Pretty weird thinking these fish don’t need to be fed because they eat peoples feet.
My Fish Spa Boracay is located at: Balabag, 5608 Malay, Philippines. The phone number is (036)288-2035, and the hours are Monday to Sunday 11am to 11pm. They also offer full body tanks, I can’t imagine what that would feel like. I don’t think you can do it if you have any open cuts or wounds, not sure if its for sanitary reasons or because it would hurt instead of tickle.
