Officially the whitest sand in the world according to the Guiness Book of World Records, Hyams Beach at Jervis Bay is a great “off the beaten path” destination. A few hours south of Sydney, Jervis Bay is more of a local spot. Rent a car and drive yourself down; stay in a house on St Georges Basin Lake, or even on the beach, while only paying modest prices. You won’t find crazy nightlife, or busy shops & restaurants, Jervis Bay is a place to get away from the masses of Bondi style beaches.

Jervis Bay has other beaches and things to do and see, Hyams beach is just the highlight. St Georges Basin lake is not anything special, but Cave Beach, Murrays Beach, and Greenpath Beach are all worth a peak. Chances are you’ll see wild Kangaroo and Wallabes roming around the Booderee National Park as you zip around to all these spots in your rental car or camper van. Whale Watching (seasonal, June-July and September-November), fishing, and surfing are other popular activities in the Jervis Bay region.
