Rere Falls, Rock Slide & Champagne Pools – NZ

Rere Falls and Champagne Pools
Rere Falls and Champagne Pools near Gisborne

Definitely a must-do for everybody in Gisborne over summer! for the thrill seekers among you, you can spend hours here on boogie boards or rubber rings, lilos or any flotation devise racing each other down the 60 metre long natural rock slide. You definitely cant be afraid to get a bump or two but nothing serious. There’s not much room around the edges there is a small picnic area but it fill fast so if you can get there early ish you & your friends will have plenty of space. once your tired or abit too bruised then you should head up the road about a 5min drive from here is one of gisbornes best kept secrets the Champagne Pools.

The Champagne Pools are naturally made, super deep, sun heated rock pools. Ideal for a leisurely soak but climbing up the sides of the surrounding rock walls and ‘bombing’ in is usually what the boys love doing. And you can usually hide behind some of the falls in the pools to scare your friends. You can walk from one to the other down the farm track but its abit of a mission. After a huge day of rock slides and rock pools if you have a car then its worth checking out Rere Falls on the way back – this water fall is safe enough to leap off from the top but simply walking behind the falls and being inches away from a curtain of water is amazing enough in itself. Best of all all this if free and can pass hours if not day with lots of fun.
