A family plays soccer on Playa Langosta
Playa Langosta is a strip of beaches and rocky coast just south of the resort town of Tamarindo in Costa Rica. The shore is lined with resorts and bed and breakfasts, but most are removed enough from the beach, behind dense foliage, that the beach retains an unmolested feel. Playa Langosta can get pretty crowded during the peak season, so arriving just before that, early December, will give you perfect weather and a little less crowded experience.

A huge snapper caught with the head of a skipjack tuna in Tamarindo, Costa Rica
Tamarindo, located in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica, along with being a great surf and resort spot, is a really fun place to fish. I was there in December, which is supposed to be a good time to catch marlin and sailfish although we didn’t, but I had just as much fun reeling in the hard fighting skipjack and yellowfin tunas that bit almost every time we threw out a line. We were even lucky enough to catch a snapper.
